Telecommunication sector needs high-tech specialists who are more prepared in the field of research and development (R&D) and not in administration and operation management (AOM) as only the specialists prepared in such a way can ensure notable success in the society of knowledge.
The objective of the doctoral study programme “Telecommunication” is to prepare specialists of the higher scientific qualification – Doctors of Engineering Sciences in Electronics and Telecommunications for performance of scientific, research and pedagogic work.
As the result of doctoral studies one acquires knowledge for further scientific pedagogic work for instance to carry out scientific research and pedagogic work independently in telecommunication field; to apply the acquired knowledge for solution of scientific problems; to elaborate, present and implement scientific projects and publications in telecommunication branch; to analyze the latest development tendencies constantly in telecommunication technologies and perfect one`s knowledge; etc.

The graduates of the study programme are highly qualified specialists in the field of telecommunications who work as high qualification specialists in higher educational establishments and scientific-research institutes, state institutions and international organizations (for example, at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), as well as in companies related to information technologies and telecommunications in Latvia and abroad.
