Telecommunication Technologies and Data Transmission Engineering
Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications
The study programme “Telecommunication Technologies and Data Transmission Engineering” has been designed to prepare students who intend to venture into one of the most dynamical and radically changing fields, that of telecommunication, information communication technology, mobile computing, computer networking and security.
The unprecedentedly rapid development of telecommunication technologies has changed the requirements of the industry. The requirements set forth 5th level engineers have decreased. The requirements for the deepened knowledge in engineering sciences have increased: engineers should acquire knowledge in coding theory (information protection, knowledge management, etc.), optical processing and transmission of information. In-depth study of these subjects is not incorporated in the standard of professional education.
Both the study programme and academic personnel are open for innovations. New university level lecture courses of perspective directions are regularly included in the study programme. Applications for new lecture courses are filed and guest lecturers are invited. The concept allows using all the accessible resources in Latvia. The objectives and tasks of the study programme are formulated balancing the wishes, possibilities and resources of the society (National Development Plan 2010-2013, Europe 2020 and ICT 2020 strategies), potential employers, university and students. The objectives of the study programme are formulated based on the inquiries, wishes and requirements of the interested parties in accordance with the quality management system. The current objectives of the study programme are analyzed and specified every year (usually at the end of an academic year).
