Partner countries
Erasmus+ partner countries include applicants from outside the European Union.
Erasmus+ partner countries include countries from the following regions of the world, Western Balkans, Asia, Central Asia, Neighborhood East, South-Mediterranean, Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and Caribbean. All other countries in the world are able to participate in some Actions under Erasmus+ but only under certain circumstances (for more information, please consult the Erasmus+ partner country coordinators at RTU).

Admission procedure
Step 1 – Nomination from your Home University
Each Erasmus+ mobility candidate has to be officially nominated by their Home University. The nomination has to be approved with an official nomination document provided by the Home University (Nomination Letter).
Note! The Nomination Letter is a mandatory requirement for all applicants, however, it does not guarantee acceptance. Namely, RTU has the right to reject a nominated student if the student has not filled other Erasmus+ application requirements or cheats/behaves inappropriately during the Skype interview.
Note! Your Erasmus grant will be paid by RTU.
Note! Students are able to apply for an Erasmus+ mobility at RTU only if their Home University has a valid bilateral Erasmus+ Agreement with RTU.
Note! The Nomination Letter is crucialwhile applying for a long term VISA (“D-VISA”).
Step 2 – Online Application
Apply online at incomingexchange.rtu.lv. Only submitted online applications will be considered valid.
Step 3 – Required documents
All applicants have to submit the following documents:
- Nomination letter from the Home University;
- A scanned copy of passport (the picture has to be clear);
Note! For visa purposes the applicant has to submit a full passport copy (including pages with information about previous visas, etc.)
- Transcript of records (In English);
Note! Transcript of records has to reflect that student has successfully completed all academic requirements at home university. Students with failed grades and, accordingly with academic debts at home university, will not be accepted as exchange students at Riga Technical University.
- An official English language proficiency confirmation, stating knowledge of at least level B2 according to CEFR;
- A Portfolio – if you are applying to the Faculty of Architecture;
Note! If you are applying to the Faculty of Architecture, your acceptance for exchange studies will depend on the evaluation of your portfolio and academic background. It is advisable that at the time of application, student is at least in 4th semester on a bachelor level studies, meaning – will have finished at least 2 years of studies in the field of architecture at the time of exchange.
- Create a provisional study plan based on the study courses HERE.
Note! According to Erasmus+ rules, the chosen courses have to constitute at least 30 ECTS per semester. All selected courses have to be approved by the Home University and the student is obliged to pass all the courses at the end of the semester at RTU.
Step 4 – Mobility documents
Acceptance letters from RTU as well as Study Agreements, Learning Agreements and documents for visa application purposes will be provided to all selected candidates after they have successfully completed and submitteda valid online application and completed an online interview with one of Erasmus+ coordinators at RTU.
NOTE! All mobility documents for the selected candidates are generatedwithin the Incoming Exchange online applicationplatform;therefore, it is essential that all personal detailsprovided are 100% correct (official registered place of residence, personal data, etc.). Incomplete applications and applicationscontainingfalse information will be automatically rejected!
Step 5 – Other mobility matters

If you are NOT a citizen of a member state of European Union or European Economic Area, or Switzerland, check immigration requirements HERE.
Note! There are countries and territories whose citizen passport holders do not require a visa to enter Latvia and stay in its territory for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. You can find the list of these countries and territories HERE:
